The support of College of Law alumni, alumnae, and friends is an important part of our success. If you would like to discuss giving opportunities, please contact the Law Alumni Office at 419-530-2628 or law.alumni@utoledo.edu. You may also Make a Donation Online. The message below describes a wide range of giving opportunities, including the Annual Fund, endowed funds, and naming gifts.

Sharing your Success

A Message on Giving from Dean Ray

On behalf of the College of Law community, I thank you for all you do to share your success with our students. Many of you serve as mentors, as resources for students interested in your region, as participants in our career fairs and as advisors through our alumni organizations. Others recommend College of Law students to judges seeking clerks and to lawyers with positions to fill and recommend the College to prospective students. Today, more than ever, your financial support is important as well. Diminished levels of State and University support mean that your contributions will have an immediate and direct impact on the quality of education we provide, on the reputation of your law school and on the opportunities available to our students. Your support can make a difference in our students’ lives.

Annual Fund

Unrestricted gifts to the Annual Fund can be put to work immediately and are used to support on-going programs and new initiatives. These gifts enable us to meet our most pressing needs and to continue to offer a high quality educational program.

The Annual Fund supports:

  • Scholarships for students who might not otherwise be able to attend
  • Educational resources for clinical programs
  • Public Interest Summer Fellowships
  • Resources for our Pro Bono Legal Services Program
  • Moot court and trial advocacy programs
  • Conferences and symposia that help us expand our students’ horizons
  • Student oriented activities such as recognition receptions, career fairs, and networking events
  • Professional Development programs and activities for students
  • Communications with alumni including publication of the Transcript
  • Software and furniture purchases
  • Distinguished speakers
  • LaValley Law Library acquisitions

Every gift counts.

You may Make a Gift Online or send a check made payable to the University of Toledo Foundation to this address:

The Dean’s Council

Donors of $1000 and above in a year will be recognized with membership in the Dean’s Council. They will be invited to an annual donor appreciation event, receive updates from the College of Law and special invitations to law school events. These gifts make it possible for a person to know that he or she has made a significant difference in a student’s life. Donations can be designated for particular uses such as scholarships, public interest projects, faculty research and scholarship and student organization support.

The Fornoff Society

Fornoff Society membership recognizes those who pledge at least $10,000 to the law school, payable at the rate of $1000 or more per year. Fornoff Society pledges and gifts not only provide an important source of revenue but provide a continuity of giving that will enable us to plan and support longer term programs. Fornoff Society members will receive recognition in addition to that which they receive as Dean’s Council members. For more information, contact Dean Douglas Ray at 419-530-2379 or douglas.ray@utoledo.edu.

Endowed and Naming Gift Opportunities

Gifts or pledges of $25,000 and up can be used to establish endowed funds to support scholarships, graduation awards, summer public service fellowships, faculty research awards, clinic activities, library acquisitions, student organizations, endowed professorships, and a wide range of other valuable activities. Income from such funds is used each year while the principal remains intact, making these the gifts that keep on giving. A donor may choose to name the fund to honor his or her law firm, a colleague or a loved one, or may allow us to name the fund for the donor.

Naming gifts provide another way to leave a legacy. Classrooms, offices, courtyards, faculty suites, and student organization offices are available to be named in recognition of appropriate gifts. Naming opportunities are available for a wide variety of giving levels. For information on setting up an endowed fund or making a naming gift, please contact Dean Douglas Ray at 419-530-2379 or douglas.ray@utoledo.edu.

The Law Firm Challenge

We invite all law firms, corporations and government offices with five or more alumni/ae to participate in our new law firm challenge program. Participating firms will be listed in our annual honor roll of giving and we will give special recognition to the firms and offices with the highest percentage of alumni/ae making gifts. If you are interested in enrolling your firm and willing to serve as the captain of your law office’s participation, please contact the Law Alumni Office at 419-530-2628 or law.alumni@utoledo.edu

A Sincere Thank You

To all who have donated in the past, I thank you for your support. You have helped the law school progress and serve society through the efforts of our graduates. To achieve our full potential, we now need the help of all alumni, alumnae and friends to bring us to the next level of success. Your gift will set an example for others and acknowledge the value of your legal education in preparing you for a career serving others. I look forward to working with you.
