An appellate level law clerk is an attorney position involving highly responsible legal work directly assisting a Supreme Court justice or Court of Appeals judge with case-specific duties.
Law clerks are hired at the discretion of the justice or judge and under the exclusive supervision of that person.

Typical examples of a law clerk’s work are to prepare bench briefs on upcoming cases, review the record, research the law germane to the appeals under submission, prepare legal memoranda, synthesize factual analysis and complete legal research.

Clerks need considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, and practices of legal research. They must possess the ability to analyze, appraise, and organize facts, evidence, and precedents concerned in difficult and complex cases. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, is a necessity along with skills in word processing.

Individuals are required to have graduated from an American Bar Association approved law school and be eligible to be admitted to the Nebraska State Bar Association.
